TAXILA, Sept 9: The Wah Cantt police on Sunday booked a local leader of Pakistan Tehrik-i-Insaf (PTI) along with his 40 supporters for allegedly ransacking a toll plaza and damaging state as well as private property besides taking away cash worth Rs0.3 million.

According to the FIR lodged by officials of the National Highway Authority (NHA) and the toll plaza contactor Akbar Khan, the Pakistan Tehrik-i-Insaf leader, who is also a former Union Council naib nazim, along with his 40 supporters attacked the toll plaza on Hazara road with clubs and sticks and damaged it.

They also uprooted the newly-installed barriers besides allegedly taking away Rs0.3 million cash and a generator.

It has been learnt that there was a despite between the local residents and the NHA contactor over collection of toll tax.

The residents demanded exemption from the toll tax as they passed through the toll plaza many times a day.

As the contactor continued collecting the toll tax, the residents attacked the toll plaza.
