KARACHI: The Chief Justice of the Sindh High Court on Wednesday issued notices to concerned officials and departments over a huge fire that has so far killed at least 289 people at a garment factory in Karachi.

The blaze, which engulfed the factory in Karachi’s SITE area, has been termed as the city’s “biggest fire in terms of deaths in decades”.

A petition was filed in the SHC on Tuesday over the incident after which Chief Justice Mushir Alam issued notices to several authorities, including the Advocate General (AG) Sindh, the Secretary for Industries, Director General (DG) Rangers Sindh and the Inspector General (IG) of Sindh Police.

The CJ has also sought a reply within ten days from the officials.

The petitioner has filed the application for the incident’s investigation and possible negligence by authorities. The petitioner has also pleaded to the court to compensate relatives of the victims of the tragedy.

COMMENTS

  1. JUSTICE WILL BE SERVED NOW.BE ASSURED

  2. why dont we make the great CJ as the President of Pakistan and he looks at every single affair in Pakistan? CJ sb, i have lost my wallet, can you give help me

  3. Do you have a good reason for not telling the name of the factory that caught fire? You leave millions of people (especially Pakistanis) living in foreign countries, in suspense who would like to know where it happened. Do you do that simply because you don’t want the factory concerned to have free publicity? Or are you not sure of the intensity of the news?

  4. All concerned authorities should be taken to task including Minister of Industry who has never visited small industrial sites. Its a huge loss and if not proper action is taken then it will again prove that society has lost all sane and will collapse forever.
