KARACHI, Sept 11: Ninety-five per cent work on the five dispensaries being built in Lyari has been completed and they will be finished in the next two weeks, said Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) Commissioner Matanat Ali Khan on Tuesday.

Five dispensaries and as many maternity homes are being constructed in Lyari.

Each maternity home will have 15 beds and two of them will work round the clock while the other three will work only during the day.

Commissioner Khan was attending a meeting over the matter with other KMC officials. He assured the meeting participants that the health projects, being built under the Lyari Development Package, would be completed on time. He said that out of the five dispensaries, construction and renovation of the three in Meeranpir, Behar Colony and Hazara Colony was complete and they were already functioning, while the other two would begin to offer services shortly when the staff was hired.

Besides health-care centres, the KMC is also building six schools in the area.

The education director informed the commissioner that 70 per cent construction of schools had been completed at a cost of Rs40 million. The commissioner sought a report on all the schools in Lyari, including the dimensions of their buildings and playgrounds.—Staff Reporter
