No clue to stolen baby
RAWALPINDI, Sept 11: Police on Tuesday continued search for the newborn baby who was stolen from Benazir Bhutto Hospital on Monday.
The sketches of the woman suspected of stealing the baby boy have been drawn with the help of his mother. On the other hand, the hospital administration launched a departmental inquiry into the incident to ascertain the actual circumstances leading to the baby’s theft. It also formed a committee tasked with submitting recommendations to improve hospital’s security to avert such incidents in future.
The committee headed by Dr Fauzia will also fix the responsibility for the baby’s theft. The committee is to submit its recommendations regarding the improvement of security system and installation of latest surveillance system in the hospital on Wednesday.
On their part, the police prepared the sketches of the suspected woman with the help of the newborn’s mother and also took a security guard into custody for investigation. Besides, the hospital staff was also questioned though none of them was arrested despite accusation levelled by the parents of the baby against them.
The newborn disappeared after a woman dressed in purple clothes came to his mother’s bed and took him away, saying he needed to be administrated the first vaccination dose.
“It was the hospital staff who sold our baby. Nurses were teasing my wife and trying to get her signatures on some papers when I called the police today,” alleged Meharban Hussain, the father of the baby. He added: “We will not leave the hospital until our baby is reunited with us.”The baby’s mother, Aksa, 19, has been in distress since her first baby was separated from her. She said: “I will not leave the hospital without my baby. We just want our baby back.”
When contacted, deputy superintendent of police Jamil Baig said search for the baby was underway.
He added: “We have been reviewing the previous such cases to get help in the investigation. It could be a job of a childless woman.” The police have also got the cellphone data of the hospital staff.
