ISLAMABAD, Sept 11: Chief of Army Staff Gen Ashfaq Parvez Kayani met President Asif Ali Zardari at the Presidency on Tuesday and discussed issues pertaining to security of the country.
Presidency’s spokesman Farhatullah Babar said “current security situation was discussed at the meeting”, without providing details.
It is believed that the issue of North Waziristan came under discussion. Media reports say the US wants Pakistani forces to carry out a military operation in the agency against the Haqqani network.
One of the significant issues, which are being discussed in the corridors of powers, is the current visit of a UN team to Pakistan on a fact-finding mission on missing persons.
Earlier, it was not clear on whose invitation the UN delegation has come. The Foreign Office has now clarified that the team was invited by the government.
It is believed that the issue was also discussed during the meeting between President Zardari and Gen Kayani.
