KARACHI, Sept 13: A man was killed and six others were wounded in a gun and a grenade attack at a roadside restaurant in New Karachi late on Thursday night.

Police said the attack took place near Allahwali Chowrangi, within the remit of the Surjani Town police station.

The seven injured persons were taken to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital (ASH), where one of them died.

SSP of district west Amir Farooqui confirmed that the attack took place, adding that the motive for it was not clear.

Young man shot dead

A young man was gunned down in a Quaidabad locality on Thursday, police said.

They said the incident took place in New Muzaffarabad Colony on Rehri Goth Road, within the remit of the Quaidabad police station, where gunmen riding a motorbike opened fire on Khalid Rehman, 30, sitting in front of his home.

Area people informed the police about the incident. The police arrived at the scene and took the body to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre for medico-legal formalities.

The police said the victim was a wage earner and was sitting outside his home when he was targeted by assailants.

They suspected personal enmity as a possible motive for the murder.

The victim’s brother, Murad, lodged an FIR (470/2012) under Section 302 (premeditated murder) of the Pakistan Penal Code against unknown gunmen at the Quaidabad police station.

Watchman

A watchman of an auto-rickshaw stand was gunned down in PIB Colony on Thursday.

Police said the incident took place near Jamia Rasheedia, Meena Bazaar, where assailants riding a motorcycle opened fire on Khalid Allahwala, 40, who was on duty at the rickshaw stand.

The victim was taken to the Civil Hospital Karachi, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

The police said the victim’s relatives were not giving details of the incident. The police registered an FIR (239/2012) against unknown suspects.

The victim was a resident of Nazimabad and hailed from Rajanpur, Punjab.

Wage earner

A young man was killed in the Sohrab Goth area in the early hours of Thursday.

Police said the incident took place in Ayub Goth, where unknown suspects fired shots at Sarwar, 30, son of Nabi.

The victim died before he could be shifted to ASH.

Police were clueless about the number of suspects and the mode of transport they used in the killing.

The victim was a resident of Noor Mohammad Goth and a wage earner.

Body found

The body of an unidentified man was found in the Lyari river on Thursday.

Police said the decomposed body was around 10 days old. They shifted it to the Civil Hospital Karachi and later to the Edhi morgue for want of identification. The police said a post-mortem examination showed that the victim had been shot in the head.
