ISLAMABAD, Sept 15: The National Database and Registration Authority (Nadra) has employed 2,000 female employees to promote women empowerment.

This is 13 per cent of the total strength of employees working in Nadra, said a statement issued by Nadra.

It is three per cent more than the government quota reserved for women in jobs which is 10 per cent.

Nadra is committed to providing dignified work environment for female workers by implementing the legislation of ‘Protection against Harassment of Women at Workplace Act 2010’.

This piece of legislation has been approved by the government.

An anti-harassment committee comprising of senior Nadra officials has been constituted to ensure respectful and conducive environment for women.

The statement further adds, that the organisation has also been conducting training sessions to raise voice against workplace harassment and awareness about anti-harassment laws. Accordingly, Nadra is one of the leading public service institutions, which provide a peaceful and secure environment for women in Pakistan, the statement claimed.

According to the statement, women form around 51 per cent of the Pakistani population.

They are the vital segment of the society and, as such, progress cannot be achieved without their full participation in every sphere of life.

It is imperative they earn their rightful place in the social milieu.

Women working in Nadra have proven that they are as competent as their male counterparts, only if they are provided a secure and fair environment where they can apply their knowledge, skills, qualifications and intelligence, the statement further adds.

Nadra has increased women registration by almost 80 per cent during the last three years.
