Tribute to Faraz

Published September 16, 2012

It’s good to know that poet Ahmed Faraz’s son Sarmad Faraz is a musician. His tribute to his poet father titled Shayar (which can be seen on Youtube) is a project that is these days being talked about. The good thing about it is that Sarmad hasn’t asked anyone to sing Faraz’s poetry (because there are only a handful of singers in Pakistan who do justice to Urdu nazms and ghazals). Instead, he’s come up with an instrumental, with a video that has a story interspersed with shots of Faraz reciting one of his known nazms at a mushaira. Way to go, man!
