HYDERABAD, Sept 16: Defence Minister Syed Naveed Qamar said on Sunday efforts were being made to trace missing persons.

Talking to reporters after attending a reception hosted by Waheeda Shah in Tando Mohammad Khan, he said that being the world body the United Nations had sent its working group on enforced and involuntary disappearances to Pakistan to do its job on the issue of missing persons.

“The UN has a role to play in the world and for that reason its working group is visiting the country.”

The minister said that People’s Party had concluded talks with the MQM over the local government law and now other parties would be consulted and their suggestions would also be sought. He said the local government law would be implemented after getting `positive’ input and recommendations from other stakeholders.

Mr Qamar said that the final decision about the formation of a caretaker government would be taken after consultations with all political parties.

He expressed the optimism that the PPP would emerge successful in the general elections.

He said the PPP believed in judiciary’s independence and regardless of tactics being employed by the opponents they would be defeated in polls.
