Father hacks daughter to death

RAWALPINDI, Sept 18: A father brutally hacked his divorced daughter to death in the city suburbs because he could not countenance her working in a beauty parlour, her siblings reported to police on Tuesday.
Police said Allah Ditta, the accused, was arrested and confessed to the crime.
A blood-stained axe he was believed to have used to kill his 32-year-old daughter Shagufta, was also recovered.
“My father tied her to a tree in the jungle near our house and swung the axe at her neck, killing her instantly,” police quoted her younger sister as saying. In his statement recorded with the police her brother, Fiaz Ali, said the family lived in Gorakhpur village in Adiala suburbs and his father used to violently oppose Shagufta’s desire to accept an offer from the lady of the house where she worked as a maid, to work in the parlour that she ran.
“Last night, our father beat her up when she insisted on joining the parlour. Other family members intervened and the issue was settled for the time being,” the younger sister told the police.
Shagufta had a little son and was divorced about three years ago.
As she woke up from her sleep, said the younger sister, she saw her father taking Shagufta away, holding a piece of rope and an axe in his hand.
Scared and suspicious at this scene, she said she informed her brother.
Shagufta was taken away by her father to the nearby jungle where he allegedly tied her to a tree, abused her and then allegedly smashed her neck with an axe, killing her on the spot, according to the sibling.
Meanwhile, last Sunday two women were murdered in the name of honour in the city.
In the first incident a woman identified as Hasrat Bibi was shot dead by her son-in-law in Khyban-e-Sir Syed.
Hasrat Bibi’s daughter who had been married with Ali had returned to her mother’s house after disputing with her husband.
As he came to his in-laws’ house to convince his wife Mehwish to go with him, he got provoked as his in-laws refused to send their daughter with him, he pulled out his pistol and gunned down his mother in law.
In another incident a woman identified as Sadaf Jabeen was shot dead by her husband Tanveer Ahmed outside Ayub Park.
I doubt if there will be any protest marches about this. We are after all the biggest hypocrites around.
It is such a shame that no one openly condemns such incidents.Height of brainwashing by the mullahs and ignorance of a common man!!
Education and awareness is the basic fundamental concept such people lack.Lets ban these madrassas or at the least monitor them and have a standard for course material.I fear that this is the outcome of the teachings at such places over the years that limit their logic.

Ancient Arabs used bury their daughters alive as soon as they were born and it used to be a norm. Islam changed that as first thing, only to find out that in Pakistan 1500 years later Muslims of Pakistan will be doing that again or even worse.

Hardly extremist liberals. More people with actual common sense. Why else would this father hack his daughter to death? Why else would women be murdered in the name of honour by their own family members? The answer; Religion. In this case it’s Islam.
Attacking Islam and adressing a serious issue such as these murders are two entirely different things.
Agreed. Exactly. Criminals exist in all societies and religions but if someone with a Muslim name commits a crime than it becomes the fault of islam.
At least the so called ‘extremist liberals’ don’t blow themselves up in crowds and don’t massacre innocent citizens!
He must be at peace, now that his ‘honor’ has been restored. How dare a woman disobey a man, that too her father! In a hyper patriarchal society obsessed with ensuring absolute male control over the female, the male derives social honor from his ability to control the female. Inability to do so leads to ‘shame’ in the society. Honor killing is not just an individual act. We cannot dissociate it from the broader societal context. Our social value system is geared towards promoting and encouraging male control over the female as a matter of norm and prescribes sanctions for deviation. At the same time it does not value, rather it looks down upon, any independent decision making on part of the female. This whole structure of oppression is supported and sustained on the grounds of religion and culture. Add to this the curse of ignorance and illiteracy, and you realize that such tragic incidents are nothing but inevitable.
