LAHORE, Sept 19: The Lahore High Court ordered the Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority and others on Wednesday to immediately stop telecasting all films made on lives of different prophets either by television channels or cable operators.
Justice Ijazul Ahsan issued the order during the first hearing of a writ petition filed by Aalmi Majlis-i-Tahafuz-i-Khatm-i-Nabuwat challenging criminal negligence of the authorities concerned over an anti-Islam film recently made in the US.
Representing the petitioner, Advocate Ishtiaq Chaudhry argued that the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority had failed to discharge its responsibility regarding the anti-Islam film which was easily available on the internet.
The counsel stated that photos, films and dramas made on true lives of all prophets were not allowed under an order of the Federal Shariat Court.
However, he said such films were being shown by several television channels and cable operators. He requested that all such material should be seized and an inquiry team appointed to fix responsibility.
After hearing arguments, Justice Ahsan directed the authorities to stop the sale of CDs containing sacrilegious material and their exhibition by television channels or cable network.
