ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court of Pakistan has ordered a weekly report on the situation of law and order and cases of enforced disappearances in Balochistan, DawnNews reported.

A three member bench of the apex court, led by Chief Justice Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhry, was hearing a case on Thursday on the law and order situation in the insurgency-hit province.

During the hearing, counsel for former Chief Minister Balochistan Sardar Akhtar Mengal apprised the court that his client was undergoing medical treatment abroad, and would return to Pakistan by Sept 26.

The Chief Justice said that Sardar Akhtar Mengal could help the apex court in regards to the issue of enforced disappearances or ‘missing persons’. On the counsel’s request, the CJ ordered the interior secretary to ensure formidable security arrangements for the former CM’s return.

The hearing was subsequently adjourned to Sept 27.
