THE prospect of holding senior officials accountable for their deeds and the mere thought of punishing them is something very rare and unheard of in Pakistan.

Thus, when the army declares that it has recalled three retired generals for the purpose of holding them accountable for their misdeeds in the National Logistics Cell money laundering scam, there seems to be a sudden clamour announcing that such actions would only serve to further shroud the whole case in mystery.

Drawing such conclusions has become a collective response conditioned through many episodes of injustices.

This case was taken up by the army since 2010 and steady progress has been made in the past few months to reach a point where the three retired men have been recalled to be dealt with according to strict military laws.

Never has the nation experienced officials at such ranks to be court-martialed before.

Without entering into the debate whether the three retired senior army officials should be tried under a civilian court or a military court, one ought to focus more upon the fact that speedy trial should pave way for a judicious verdict.

That none is above the law would be the best message that the armed forces could give forth through this case by keeping the proceedings absolutely transparent for the nation to view as the people have had enough of cases being mysteriously brushed under the carpet never to be heard of gain.

The perpetrators of such a high-level corruption ought to be punished for their crimes and the embezzled national wealth ought to be extracted. Only through transparency can the armed forces turn this decision into a very wise one.

COMMENTS

  1. Speedy justice is the only solution to wipe out corruption.

  2. Can only happen in Pakistan to recall on Job to court Marshall. Does army have no trust in civil judicial
    system?

  3. Even if they made a mistake, we cannot forget the sacrifices they made for Pakistan risking their lives every day.

  4. this is mockery of justice,

  5. I don’t understand how military can call back retired generals without approval of Fedaral Government. So in Pakistan there are two constitution is working. One for Military and second for rest of the people. Ironic thing is nobody, politician buerocrates judiciary dare to ask military boss the provision under which he had reinstate three generals. This is definately not democratic elected government in the world allowed like this. I don’t know what kind of democracy Pakistan is following.

  6. Justice must be done at all levels and by us all who are responsible for duties assigned to us.The courts should always be the last forum for final judgement.

  7. It’s a good decision by the army and i am sure they will ensure that justice prevails

  8. Cleanse the Judiciary and the Army and rest would follow naturally

  9. jalaluddin S. Hussain

I agree with the writer and as a Canadian Pakistani see a lot of hope for Pakistan.

  10. It is a good account. It proves that corruption has no leaps and bounds. It has the power to corrupt any one even the sacred uniform as well.

  11. Is the military justice different than the civilian justice? What wrong did the small time pick-pockets do to be tried under a harsher law? Is it JUSTICE or JUST US?

  12. No one should be beyond the law.
