KARACHI: President Asif Ali Zardari has asked former Home Minister Zulfiqar Mirza to reach out to estranged PPP supporters and get them back into the fold, DawnNews reported.

The president paid Mirza a surprise visit at his residence in Karachi on Wednesday. Sources said that during the meeting, Zardari asked Mirza to plan a public gathering for PPP chairperson Bilawal Bhutto Zardari.

Zardari further gave Mirza the task of sorting out differences with estranged PPP collegues and allies, sources said.

Mirza agreed on the condition that three members, including MNA Qadir Patel, Senator Yousuf Baloch and Senator Saeed Ghani, of a committee earlier set up by Zardari will be kept away from the 'reach out process'.

Mirza was assured by Zardari that no one will interfere and that 'he should go ahead with the task', sources added.

In this regard, Mirza will soon hold talks with estranged PPP allies in Lyari, Bin Qasim, Gadap and Malir towns.

The sources further added that Zardari also instructed Mirza to hold talks with Uzair Baloch, the chief of defunct People's Aman Committee.

Zardari has also asked Mirza to take responsibilty of the PPP Sindh Presidency, sources said.
