KARACHI, Sept 21: A traffic police constable was shot dead in a Sohrab Goth area on Friday, police officials said.

They added that armed men on a motorbike targeted 35-year-old Amir Shah Shirazi near the Ayub Goth police-post.

The policeman sustained three bullet wounds and died during treatment at the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital, the police said.

“The incident seemed to be part of the recent wave of targeted attacks on policemen,” said an official at the Sohrab Goth police station.

“The victim was a resident of Future Colony in Landhi and posted here at the Ayub Goth police-post for the past one month or so with our area police to control heavy industrial traffic passing from the area.”

Transporter killed

In Korangi, a transport operator was shot dead allegedly by his friend outside his house on Friday.

The area police said that 45-year-old Mohammed Khan Afridi was sitting with his friends outside his house in Sector 6-A of Mehran Town and during chit-chat a hot debate erupted between them over some personal matter.

“The situation turned serious when one of his friends took out a pistol and fired a shot at Afridi that hit him in the neck and proved fatal,” said an official at the Korangi Industrial Area police station.

“The attacker, however, escaped. The victim who was a transporter by profession was a father of six children. His body was handed over to his family after medico-legal formalities at the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre.”

Boy found shot dead

A teenage boy was found shot dead in the Memon Goth area of Malir on Friday, police said.

They added that the victim identified as Waheedullah was hit two bullets on the face and his body was found in an isolated place near Aasu Goth.

The body was later taken to the Edhi morgue after medico-legal formalities at the JPMC because the police remained unable to track down his family, said an official at the Memon Goth police station.

Body found

In Liaquatabad, the body of a young man stuffed in a gunny bag was found in an open drain on Friday, police said.

They added that the body was found in the PIB drain near the Sindhi Hotel in Liaquatabad.

“The man was wearing trousers and a shirt seemed to be in his late 20s. He was shot two bullets in the chest,” said a Liaquatabad police station official, adding that they were unable to ascertain his identity yet.
