KARACHI: Due to a crack in the Hub River Canal, water supply to Karachi has been suspended. Engineers of Karachi Water & Sewerage board reached the site after reports and began repair work on the canal. The repair work is being done under the supervision of Acting Managing Director Ali Mohammad Palejo.

According to the details, the canal cracked about 2:00am on Sunday morning affecting, Bhorey Khan Goth and the surrounding areas.

Acting M.D Ali Mohammad Palejo, upon receiving the reports, ordered Chief Engineer Bulk to look into the situation immediately who requested WAPDA to halt the supply from Hub Dam ensuring that the areas sinking in the water are secure.

Acting M.D Ali Mohammad Palejo, Superintendent Engineer Sikandar Ali Zardari reached the site with heavy machinery and started the repair work on an emergency basis. According to the engineers the crack is about 200 feet wide and would take up to 72 hours to repair.

Acting M.D has started that he would stay on site till the crack is repaired along with his teams. However, due to the crack Baldia Town, SITE, ManghoPir, Orangi Town and other areas of District West would face water shortage.

Later on, Governor Ishratul Ebad taking notice of the issue, directed Commissioner Karachi Roshan Ali Sheikh to ensure that the canal is repaired immediately and the supply is restored.

Under Governor Sindh's directions, Deputy Commissioner District West Gunwar Khan Laghari also visited the canal. After meeting Acting M.D and taking a briefing about the situation, he hoped that Engineers of KW&Sb would restores the supply soon.
