GUJAR KHAN, Sept 24: Poor sanitation and lack of cleanliness in the residential and commercial areas of the city have become hallmark of the Gujar Khan city and the residents are contracting various diseases due to neglect by the town municipal administration.

Residents complained that the TMA administrators seldom paid attention to improve the sanitary conditions, adding streets in the commercial and residential areas remained littered with dirt and debris. On the other hand, public places, pedestrian ways along service roads and G.T. Road are full of dirt and refuse. They said the TMA officials further cause pollution in the environment by putting the garbage on fire. The pungent and irritating smoke spewing from various spots along the G.T. Road and at bus stops not only present a picture of an African neglected locality but also pose serious hazards to the public health and environment.

Besides, streetlights in the town also remain out of order. Consequently, street crimes in the town and accidents on the G.T. Road during night have become a routine. The residents called upon the chief minister Punjab to take notice of the issues and order the officials concerned to resolve them.—Correspondent
