LAHORE: In connection with Bhagat Singh’s 105th birthday, Azad Theatre, a recently developed theatre group, staged play ‘Chupan tun Phelan’ at Alhamra Art Centre, The Mall.

The play, written by Davinder Daman and directed by Malik Aslam, roped in a fairly good crowd from different strata of society. There were performing art enthusiasts, students from different art institutions, parallel theatre artistes and the public.

The play shows the activities of Singh’s last three days in the prison before he was sent to the gallows. The play is full of good music composed and sung by Sarfraz Ansari. There are eight choruses in the play with live orchestra.

“We have produced this play for the young generation, and our message is that every youth should have a cause like of Bhagat Singh,” Mr Aslam said. He says Azad Theatre is a new theatre and despite the shortage of resources, the cast tries to come up with such ideas which could bring about positive change in society.

The cast included Sarfraz Ansari, Usman Zia, Waseem Haider, Aliya Abbasi and Dr Mubashar. Most of the members of Azad Theatre have been working with Ajoka Theatre.

The play is a non-ticketed one and will be staged two days more. — Staff Reporter

  2. keep it up

  3. Come to Islamabad please

  4. Woderful performance as stated. The group should perform in india as it will be appreciated by the public and will prove to be a mile stone in the diversification of friendship between India and Pakistan in different fields.I am certain the group is aware of the interest Indians have been showing in the Pakistani singers. Many singers who are not very popular in Pakistan have, on their performances in India ,won laurels.Good luck and please post it on youtube.

  5. I do hope that Pakistanis know, if such an article is published in a Pakistani newspaper, any Indian who reads it, will always feel that we are one, and not two ?

  6. Can some one post it on youtube??

  7. Bhagat Sing even though born in a Sikh family was an Atheist. He believed in no God or religion.Read his life story.

    • yes right but it is disputed. he was atheist but some people says he started beliving in God after meeting a religious person. he grown hairs in last time. his lst time photo with grown hairs is very popular. any way he was a great man it doesn’t matter if he was atheist or religious. his level of thinking was very high. atheists are better than religious persons mostly

      • There is no dispute at all. Bhagat Singh himself cofirmed that he was an atheist in his last days and categorically stated that he would not become afraid and start believing in God just because he was going to die. He was a brave man indeed. He realized that religions have their issues and the idea of an almighty God is misleading.

      • Tranveer I have written a book titled “Why I Am A Humanist!” based on Bhagat Singh’s 25 page thesis “Why I Am An Atheist!” which he wrote while in jail. unfortunately the book is out of print but it can be sent by email. You may email me on: b77@shaw.ca

    • We have forgotten our Bhagat Singh, Raj Guru and SukhDevs else we not be lolling around like this in the wake of 2G and coalgate scams. We have been benumbed into thinking ourselves as free by the politicians while we remain enslaved. We should have Bhagat Singh plays.
