HYDERABAD: A division bench of the Sindh High Court (SHC) has issued notices for October 4 to respondents in a petition against promulgation of Sindh Peoples Local Government Ordinance, 2012.

SHC Hyderabad circuit bench comprising Justice Muhammad Tasnim and Justice Habib-ur-Rehman Shaikh after preliminary hearing of the petition ordered issuance of notices to the respondents including the federal government, Chief Secretary Sindh, secretaries of the local government and the Law Department to submit reply by October 4.

In his petition Mumtaz Lashari advocate maintained that the new ordinance, was a similar to the Sindh Local Government Ordinance 2011 which had lapsed in November 2011.

He also maintained that the Sindh Assembly did not legislate the ordinance to make it an act which shows that an overwhelming majority of the elected representatives was not in the favor of it.

He pleaded to the bench to strike down the ordinance and issue a stay order to bar its implementation till the court decided the petition.
