KARACHI, Sept 28: Chief Justice of Pakistan Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhry on Friday said the hub of trade and commerce had become “hub of terrorist activities”, as the Quaid’s city of lights was now facing the challenge of terrorism.

He was addressing the inaugural session of a three-day conference on combating terrorism though law, organised by the Sindh High Court and SHC Bar association.

The chief justice said that acts of terrorism were the “result of intolerance”.

“When in any society there is lawlessness, might becomes right and people who lack force in their arguments they tend towards use of force and terror,” he remarked.

He said the situation had evolved greatly since 9/11. “Now the state institutions are also being targeted. Neither any personality nor any institution is immune from such dangers,” he said.

The terrorist acts were not restricted to any particular area, he said. “The law and order situation in one part of the world adversely affects the law and order situation of other parts.”

He said that terrorists had no difficulty in finding local agents in any country where people were suffering from social injustice and where rich became richer and poor became poorer and the gap between the haves and have-nots was increasing by the day.

Chief Justice Chaudhry stressed the need for taking steps for removal of social injustice and imbalance so that the potential of the youth could be utilised fully.
