ISLAMABAD, Sept 28: Nearly 300 lawyers from Rawalpindi and Islamabad staged a peaceful protest against the anti-Islam film here on Friday.

On the call of Rawalpindi Bar Association, the lawyers took out a rally from the district and sessions court towards Islamabad.

Passing through Faizabad, Kashmir Highway, Aabpara, Ataturk Avenue and Shahrah-i-Jamhuriat, the rally reached outside Parliament House before Friday prayers.

Later, lawyers from Islamabad also joined the rally and staged the protest in front of Parliament House.

Later, when the lawyers moved towards Diplomatic Enclave, they were intercepted by the police near Prime Minister Secretariat.

However, the participants pushed the police back. A contingent of Rangers also tried to stop the protesters, but officials of the city administration cleared their way as they were peaceful.

The protesters stopped a few metres away from the enclave’s Shams Gate, where their representatives presented a memorandum to an American diplomat.

The protesters were chanting slogans against the film and it makers, demanding action against them. The lawyers dispersed peacefully at around 2:45pm.
