LANDI KOTAL/KHAR, Sept 28: Militants on Friday destroyed the abandoned house of a peace activist in Akkakhel area of Bara tehsil.

Official sources said nearly a dozen armed members of a banned militant group entered the house of Tirah Khan in Shultan Khel area of Akkakhel on Friday, planted explosive material inside the house and exploded it after leaving the premises.

They said the explosion destroyed most of the house.

Tirah Khan was killed by militants in front of his house a few months ago, forcing members of his family to flee.

In Barang area of Bajaur Agency, levies force on Friday arrested an alleged outlaw, who recently escaped from their custody.

Official sources said Darwesh Khan, 43, had escaped from the custody of levies force in 2009 and was arrested again during a raid in the remote area of Barang tehsil.

“Darwesh Khan was wanted by the administration in different criminal cases. A prize has been announced for his detention,” an official said.

The official said Mr Darwesh had escaped from the levies force’s detention when was taken to the Haripur central jail along with other prisoners.

“Three senior officials, including in charge of Khar prison Subedar Mohammad Khan, had terminated while several personnel were suspended in the case, they said.

The levies force shifted the accused to Khar jail in tight security, while the administration banned meetings with him.

Meanwhile, local administration announced cash prizes for the levies forces personnel, who took part in the raid.
