NEW YORK: The Organisation of Islamic Cooperation on Saturday praised Pakistan for engaging with India to resolve the Kashmir and other disputes.

In a joint communique issued after its coordination meeting, OIC foreign ministers condemned the anti-Islam film made in the US. But they urged Muslim nations not to resort to violence while protesting against the video.

The meeting also denounced the aggressions perpetrated against many diplomatic missions around the world and the irresponsible violations, which claimed the lives of some workers of these missions.  OIC foreign ministers “insisted on the need to guard against those who promote or are planning to produce such films in order to provoke Muslims”.

The OIC commended Pakistan’s “efforts and its readiness to engage with India to resolve all outstanding issues including Jammu and Kashmir dispute”.

The ministers urged the international community to play its due role to settle this longstanding dispute on UN agenda for the overall improvement of the relations between Pakistan and India as well as to promote regional peace and stability.

The meeting underlined its principled position on the need to preserve the unity, sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity of Syria.

OIC foreign ministers also welcomed the formation of a contact group, composed of Egypt, Iran, Saudi Arabia and Turkey, aiming at solving the crisis in Syria.—Masood Haider and Anwar Iqbal
