KARACHI: Pakistan Tehrik-i-Insaf (PTI) chief Imran Khan on Monday said that he has received a message from Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) assuring that they will not disrupt the PTI’s peace march towards South Waziristan, DawnNews reported.

Speaking exclusively in DawnNews’ programme “Faisala Awam Ka,” Khan reiterated that there is no military solution to Waziristan problem. “If the fight in Waziristan is not stopped now it will be stretched to ten more years,” he added.

The PTI chief claimed that tribal people will not only be alongside the state but will also provide solution to militancy if end of the military operation is announced.

Khan said Mehsud, Burki and Bhittani tribes of Waziristan have welcomed the peace rally. The tribal leaders had also assured the security of the participants of the rally, he added.

Meanwhile, the TTP’s spokesman Ehasanullah Ehsan, earlier on Monday, said that the militant organisation has made a decision regarding the peace march. However, the decision will be announced a day before the rally actually takes place, he added.

Khan had announced to take out a rally to South Waziristan against the US drone attacks along with thousands of people, including international civil society activists.

South Waziristan is one of the seven regions in Pakistan’s Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA), governed by tribal laws. A religious insurgency led by the Pakistani Taliban plagues the region, which is close to the Pak-Afghan border, while the area is known to be infested with militants, including the al Qaeda, the Taliban and several other armed extremist organisations.

The tribal areas, especially North and South Waziristan, have also been the stage of US drone strikes, which many say are ineffective and have claimed the lives of several innocent civilians.
