PESHAWAR, Oct 3: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ameer Haider Khan Hoti distributed compensation cheques among the victims’ heirs of the recent blasts here on Wednesday.

The heirs of 17 people, who were killed in separate acts of terrorism at Matani, Scheme Chowk and Abdara Road in Peshawar, were handed over cheques of Rs300,000 each on the occasion. Four persons, who were injured in those incidents, were also compensated.

The deputy speaker of provincial assembly Khushdil Khan, MPAs Alamgir Khalil and Atifur Rahman, Commissioner Tariq Jamel, DCO Javed Marwat and other officials were also present on the occasion.

The chief minister said that they would continue their struggle against terrorists till last. He said that there were times in Peshawar when terrorist acts took place after average 36 hours. He said that situation had improved owing to patience of people and dutifulness of police and security forces.

“We still face threats but we are ready to continue efforts for eradication of enemies to humanity, religion and peace,” Mr Hoti said.

Meanwhile, the chief minister handed over keys of buses to four different degree colleges of the province at a function in Chief Minister’s Secretariat. The colleges include Government Girls Degree College Sorani, Government Girls Degree College Bannu, Government Girls Degree College Nawan Shehr, Abbotabad and Government Girls Degree College Takht Bhai. Provincial Minister Higher Education Qazi Asad, other officials and ANP districts office-bearers were also present on the occasion.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr Hoti said that equipping girls with education was top priority of the government. He said that government had taken unprecedented steps for promotion of education at all levels.

Later, the chief minister launched Khyber Pakhtunkhwa new computerised vehicle number plates. He presented a new number plate souvenir to Minister for Excise and Taxation Liaquat Shabab on the occasion.
