PESHAWAR, Oct 3: The six-point formula of Baloch leader Sardar Akhtar Mengal could not resolve complex problems of Balochistan and it would be prudent to form an independent commission comprising Baloch leaders, politicians and legal experts to bring normalcy to the province.

This was stated by All Pakistan Abdul Qayyum Khan League (APAQL) chairman Muazzam Butt while speaking at a press conference here in Peshawar Press Club on Wednesday. He said that Mr Mengal’s formula for resolution of Balochistan crisis was unworkable.

He said that Mr Mengal had presented a charter of demands before the judiciary without consent of any Baloch leader and that was why it could not be implemented.

He suggested that a jirga of leaders and experts like Begum Nasim Wali Khan, Asma Jehangir, Mubashir Hassan and Chief Election Commissioner Farkruddin G Ibrahim should be formed so they could give solid and workable suggestions for resolution of Balochistan crisis.

Mr Butt said that holding law-enforcement agencies responsible for the entire mess in Balochistan was unjustified. He said that Mr Mengal’s formula was aimed at gaining political mileage. He said that Hazaras, Pakhtuns and Punjabis were all victims of the prevailing situation in Balochistan.

He said that senior political leadership should take up a sole agenda of providing social justice to people and ensuring amicable resolution of Balochistan problems instead of raising meaningless issues for political point-scoring.

The APAQL leader called upon certain Baloch leaders to end their contacts with foreign and external forces. He said the formation of an independent commission was a proper way to find out solution to Balochistan problems.
