KARACHI: President Asif Ali Zardari met Prime Minister Raja Pervez Ashraf on Wednesday in Karachi and also called a core committee meeting of ruling Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) on Thursday, DawnNews reported.

Thursday’s meeting will discuss overall political situation of the country and the province besides possible impacts of the newly passed Sindh People’s Local Government Ordinance (SPLGO).

The president, other than holding a one-on-one meeting with the prime minister, also attended another high level meeting in which he was briefed by Governor Sindh Dr Ishratul Ibad Khan and Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah about overall political situation of the province.

In his meeting with the premier, the president assigned the task of consulting all members of the National Assembly belonging to coalition parties to Minister of Religious Affairs Syed Khursheed Shah for attending the upcoming session of the house on October 5.

The meeting also discussed possibilities of electing a new leader of the house amid potential disqualification of PM Ashraf by the apex court in NRO implementation case.

They also agreed to expedite the issues of legislation on dual national parliamentarians and carving out the Seraiki province.

Moreover, the PPP leadership also decided to consult the allies over setting up the caretaker government.
