KARACHI, Oct 5: The Crime Investigation Department (CID) of Sindh Police on Friday claimed to have arrested over half a dozen militants for allegedly planning bomb attacks on the school of a particular sect and the city prison.

A senior official terming the arrest a big achievement said the city was ‘saved from a series of deadly assaults’, adding that intelligence coordination and persistence watch by the CID’s anti-extremist cell had also led to seizure of 125kgs of explosive, 50 detonators, suicide vests, rocket launchers and guns.

“The arrests were made after raids in Noor Muhammad Goth of Manghopir area,” said DIG Kamran Afzal at a press conference.

“The arrested persons included Muhammad Babar alias Dorki.

“He is a high-profile militant and chief of Lashkar-i-Jhangvi in Karachi,” Mr Afzal said.

“The other militants arrested are Fahimul Haq alias Bihari, Muhammad Tahir alias Mota, Muhammad Abid alias Abbasi, Muhammad Arif, Inayatullah alias Maya and Muhammad Rafiq alias Inam,” he said.
