LAHORE, Oct 7: The Punjab government on Sunday claimed to have eliminated dengue larva from as many as 20,887 places during visits to thousands of junkyards, basements and buildings across the provincial metropolis.

“Dozens of special teams from the city district government and towns have so far visited 20,887 spots and cleared them from dengue larva during the ongoing anti-dengue campaign in the city,” Punjab Chief Minister’s Special Assistant on Health Khwaja Salman Rafique said while visiting the central anti-dengue control room here.

He said the teams had issued a special code number to every dengue-cleared site in order to facilitate other departments planning to carry out larva destruction activities there. He said though the anti-dengue regulations, especially relating to tyre shops had helped the government control the spread of dengue mosquito in the city, it was planning to make the same legislation on the junkyards.
