Dengue larvae found in schools
October 9, 2012 by From the NewspaperRAWALPINDI, Oct 8: Health department officials on Monday found dengue mosquito larvae in two government schools at Dhoke Kashmirian locality of the city.
Soon after, chemicals were sprayed to eliminate the larvae. The health department had failed to fumigate the institutions, exposing the children to the threat of dengue.
District Health Officer Dr Ansar Ishaq told Dawn that a team from his department had launched a campaign to detect larvae in all government institutions, hospitals and offices.
He said private educational institutions had been instructed to conduct larvae identification exercises and spray insecticides. “We found larvae in the backyards of Rawalpindi Institute of Cardiology, Benazir Bhutto Hospital and Holy Family Hospital and requested their administrations to take preventive measures,” said Dr Ishaq.—A Reporter
