LAHORE, Oct 11: The family of a woman, who had contracted marriage with a man of her choice, on Thursday beat her black and blue on the Lahore High Court premises where she had come along with her husband to attend hearing of their petition against a ‘fake’ case.

Aroosa Tariq of Toba Tek Singh fell unconscious and was given first-aid treatment by a dispensary staff of the high court before she appeared in the court of Justice Manzoor Ahmad Malik. The security personnel arrested woman’s father Muhammad Tariq, her uncle Irfan Aslam and two others, and handed them over to the Old Anarkali police.

The woman told the judge that she had contracted marriage of her own free will, denying that Tahir Nasim had kidnapped her and forced her to tie the knot. Aroosa said she wanted to live with her husband and requested the court to order the police to quash the FIR got registered by her family.

Relying on the woman’s statement, Justice Malik ordered the police to quash the FIR and allowed her to go with her husband. The LHC security accompanied the couple to leave the premises safely.

ROUTINE AFFAIR: Such scuffles are a routine affair in the high court. In every such incident the security personnel deployed on the court premises fail to preempt the situation.

The courts had issued directions to the police to provide security official for the LHC but there is no compliance so far.
