BAHAWALPUR, Oct 12: A large number of people including family members and relatives of a man who was killed in a robbery on Thursday evening staged a protest demo on Friday at Milad Chowk by placing his body on the road, demanding early arrest of the killers.

The protesters after saying funeral prayers for Arshad Qureshi, a cashier at a pharmaceutical company, gathered at Milad Chowk and raised slogans against police for ‘showing slackness’ in arrest of the killers. Traffic on the adjacent roads remained clogged during the protest.

They placed the body of the victim in the middle of a road near the intersection, demanding early arrest of the killers.

They alleged because of delayed police response, the robbers escaped unhindered after looting Rs0.9 million from the company’s cash van and killing the cashier.

Van driver Belal Ahmad and company gunman Umar Zaman were injured by the robbers.

The protesters ended the demo and took the body to local graveyard for burial after some police officials assured them that the killers would be arrested soon.

Investigation SP Azhar Gujjar, who inquired after the injured gunman and the driver at Bahawal Victoria Hospital, expressed the hope that police would soon arrest the killers. — Correspondent
