LAHORE, Oct 13: The Punjab government approved on Saturday a scheme for the transport sector with an estimated cost of Rs3.15 billion.

The scheme pertained to construction of Metro Bus Transit System for Lahore-Ferozepur Road corridor, erection of escalators and platform screen doors at MTS Stations Package-IX (revised).

Five other development schemes of various sectors of the economy worth Rs4.45 billion were also approved in the 15th meeting of the Provincial Development Working Party of 2012-13 financial year presided over by the Punjab Planning and Development Board chairman Javaid Aslam.

The approved schemes included rehabilitation of Gujranwala-Hafizabad Road (km No 6/20 to 48/00, length 41.80km) in Gujranwala and Hafizabad districts (revised) at a cost of Rs1.77 billion; widening or improvement and construction of road from Qaziabad MM Road to Nawankot (length 33.07km) in Layyah district (revised) with a sum of Rs403.399 million; widening or improvement of Khushab-Muzaffargarh Road (Section Jhang district boundary to Muzaffargarh from km No 207.72 to 291.00, length 83.82km) in Muzaffargarh district (revised) at a cost of Rs2.26 billion.

Approval was also granted to a feasibility study and design review of the construction of Lai Expressway at Rawalpindi (PC-II) at a cost of Rs14.745 million and a feasibility study, planning and design of waste water treatment plant at Awan Chowk, Gujranwala, (PC-II) at a cost of Rs5 million.
