MUMBAI: Bollywood glamour couple Saif Ali Khan and Kareena Kapoor tied the knot on Tuesday in Mumbai in the most anticipated Indian celebrity wedding of the year.

Kapoor, 32, and Khan, 42, held an official ceremony at the groom’s home in the city, to be followed by an evening party at the grand Taj Mahal Palace hotel.

The newly-weds emerged to pose and wave to the large press pack waiting outside the residence. Kapoor appeared in a red bridal wear, while Khan wore a simple grey kurta.

The couple have been dating for five years and come from famous acting families, with their wedding attracting frenzied media coverage.

“Party time” ran the headline in the Mail Today, which offered breathless coverage of a pre-wedding function in Mumbai on Sunday evening.

“Dressed every inch like a bride-to-be, Kareena dazzled in an orange-yellow lehenga (skirt) and a shimmering golden choli (top),” it said.

“Beau Saif Ali Khan turned out more on the simpler side. He looked dapper in a white outfit.”

Friends have been tight-lipped about the private event, but the bride’s uncle, actor Rishi Kapoor, confirmed to AFP that the wedding day would be followed by a reception in Delhi in the near future.

“It is a very joyous moment for our family,” he said.

Another celebration is reportedly planned at the Pataudi Palace, the ancestral home of Khan in northern Haryana state.

He became the new Nawab of the former princely state of Pataudi last year after the death of his famous cricketing father Mansur Ali Khan, known as “Tiger Pataudi”.

Khan’s mother Sharmila Tagore is an award-winning actress and his sister Soha is also in the movie business.

Her grandfather Raj Kapoor was a cinematic legend while his brothers and a number of relatives have become well-known names in the industry.

Khan, who has appeared in about 50 films including 2001′s “Dil Chahta Hai” and “Hum Tum”, has two children with his previous wife Amrita Singh. They divorced in 2004.

Kapoor, entering her first marriage, has similar number of film credits to her name include hits like “3 Idiots” (2009) and “Jab We Met”.

She appeared alongside Khan in this year’s spy flick “Agent Vinod”.

COMMENTS

  1. good luck to both couple.

  2. madness as u know is like gravity…all it takes is a little push…someone mentioned religion and just look at the debate then:-)

  3. Malik Majeed Akhtar

Wish them good luck. Very nice and matching couple.

  4. i don’t think most Indians know that Saif means Sword. Ignorance is a bliss.

  5. sooner or later will be divorce….wait until…..timepass

  6. Lets not spoil the wedding. The picture shown above says onething only – they both look great with each other. Saif has a charming personality and Karina has no parallels in bollywood when it comes to glamour. They are both superb. I wish them joy and happiness.

  7. This is a big problem with Pakistanis – poking religion in every matter. My dear let the religion remain a very personal affair. God is meant for all human beings and not for a particular specy of humans.

  8. saif and Islam or for that matter Salman and Islam, or SRk and Islam or Amir and Islam, Ritwik and ISlam…..they all believe in Islam, as it is a religion of peace and they all are born to either Hindu father or mother so they are tolerant and do not believe the so called ritualistic or blind faith…the greatness of Indi is in the congrgation of faith and believes…..time for Pakistan to learn and respect religion, else one day the very person who wrote about Islam being puritan religion will face a Malala at his own backyard….I suggest watch the new Bollywood movie Oh My God!!! then you will know religion is nothing but nonsense….the greatness of India will triumph, the world will turn most peaceful the day all of us will start believing in goodness and not in Godliness….

  9. This is India, my friends. Humanity is the biggest religion here.

  10. There is a viral on FB which shows a picture of teenage Kareena (probably 10 or 15yrs old) congratulating Saif and his former partner Amrita Singh on their Marriage. Interesting thing was that, Saif replied to adolescent Kareena “Thank you beta” …. hahahaha

  11. Ahmed Sultan (India)

Kareena aged 10 attended Saif’s marriage with his first wife Amrita Singh in 1991. She congratulated the couple and saif said, “Thank you Beta”.

  12. No doubt love is blind, nevertheless Karina should have thought he is a married and divorced person, father of two and a chain smoker I doubt if he would take any dictates from her in married life as a Nawab he would like to dictate but she is the major bread earner and has dominating personality in the Indian outlook and he is slightly inferior in this scenario. Let us pray and hope it survives.

  13. What a load of rubbish!

  14. Mr Zee Shan is definately out of sync. In India Muslim Hindu marriages are if not common certainly there. I know of at least two such cases in Riyadh.

  15. There was no necessarity to have nikah.

    • Really! If you haven’t noticed he is Muslim. I am equally certain there must have been some sort of Hindu ceremony as well! So, just be happy for them and refrain from making unnecessary comments.

  16. wonder if she would quit acting…

  17. Filmi peoples have very little knowledge or urge for religion.

  18. wish u good luck ALLAH bless saif and kareena bhabi….

  19. They look magical couple. wish them good luck

  20. Best wishes to both of you. I hope you have not forgotten the abject poverty not too far from your front door.

  21. Ten to twenty years from now, it will only be a minority who will have any consideration about the relegious beliefs of bride and groom for contracting marriage. As for Mr Khan he was earlier also married to a lady professing a religion other than Islam.

    • Saif’s mother is Hindu. So he already was half hindu :-)

    • Mr Shahid Niaz with all respect i partly disagree with your intellection. May be you are right about other religions, but all Muslims are not actors of Bollywood, and they certainly do not follow those actors. After a Hundred years, A Muslim will only marry a Muslim and not a non Muslim. religion of Islam does not take a turn with few non Practicing Muslims. I do believe few religions might take a turn in ten years, at least that is what we are seeing. Wishing she accept Islam whole heartily. peace on you my friend.

    • only in countries which evince religious tolerance and secularism ……….. and where the ideology on which the country is based is not tendentious towards any one particular religion ……

    • What is the big deal about religion in this marriage? The main thing is that they are happy and legally married. Good luck to them.

    • That is worst thing to do.

    • it is never been a problem in in bollywood look at all the actor couple most of the are different religions… salman khans mom is a hindu, sharukh and his wife, amir and his wives, Hirithk and his wife, sunil datt and his wife the list is big

    • Marriage in Hollywood, Bollywood and lolly wood is the joke. If they have religious belief, why they will be in movies. If people stop watching movies, these will be on the street selling sabzi.

  22. Wish u gud luck

  23. These guys have only one religion ” Film”

    • they have only one religion : human

    • yea…heard of secularism..these are muslims that are the moderate face of your religion. The ones that bring a good name to your faith who the world thinks is pretty backward and barbaric. Here we have a moderate who doesnt convert his wife, treats human like a human, is well educated, successful, rich, not to mention blue blooded (he s a nawaab for god sake), popular and you berate him for not marrying within faith. No wonder pak has a bleak future.
