PESHAWAR, Oct 15: The provincial government on Monday decided to name Government Girls Degree College, Saidu Sharif after child activist Malala Yousufzai in recognition of her efforts for education and peace in the region.

The decision was made in a high-level meeting chaired by Chief Minister Ameer Haider Khan Hoti at the CM House about higher education in the province.

Matters relating to progress on the recently approved colleges in different districts of the province came under discussion in the meeting, where provincial higher education minister Qazi Mohammad Asad, additional chief secretary Attaullah Khan, higher education secretary Farah Hamid, finance and C&W secretaries and other relevant officials were in attendance.

The chief minister lauded the efforts of Ms Malala for peace and girls education.

He directed early removal of hurdles to establishment of approved colleges, saying it will help provide people of the area with education.

Also in the day, the chief minister chaired a meeting at the CM House to discuss financial crisis faced by government universities in the province.

The vice-chancellors of the said universities, provincial higher education minister Qazi Mohammad Asad, chief secretary Ghulam Dastagir, and P&D, higher education and finance secretaries attended the meeting.

The chief minister assured full support to the vice-chancellors for resolution of their problems and also said he would discuss the matter with the relevant federal government authorities. — Bureau Report
