PESHAWAR, Oct 16: Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz central leader Marvi Memon on Tuesday condemned the acid attack against Kohat University’s female students in Parachinar and demanded strict action against the culpable people.

Accompanied by her party’s representatives from Parachinar, Ms Marvi told reporters here at Peshawar Press Club that her party condemned the throwing of acid by militants on girl students near Durrani Bangash area of Parachinar three days ago as they were on the way to Kohat University to sit a viva-voce examination.

“It’s a barbaric act, which is strongly condemnable,” he said.

The PML-N leader condemned the Taliban for claiming responsibility for acid attack and said Taliban militants had no right to remain alive as they were against female education and attacking innocent people.

She said her party would soon launch a movement for the protection of the right of the people, especially women, to education and those working for it.

Ms Marvi held the government responsible for the prevailing chaos in the country and said the situation was fast worsening due to the pro-US polices.

She demanded introduction of a special law to contain acid attacks against women.

“It is the duty of the government to provide security to the people, especially those working for peace and education, but it has been a failure on this front. Therefore, fresh elections should be held in the country,” she said.

The PML-N leader said resumption of the militants’ activities was the failure of the government.

She said on one hand, the government claimed to have conducted successful operations for elimination of militants but on the other, acts of militants in the province were frequent.

Ms Marvi said the people felt insecure due to faulty government policies and that no appropriate steps had been taken for the elimination of terrorism from the country.

About possible military operation in North Waziristan, she said her party was opposed to extremism and militancy and would give its view on use of force in the restive tribal agency if it was asked to.

The PML-N leader demanded implementation of the resolutions approved by joint parliament for maintenance of the lasting and sustainable peace in the country in general and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Fata in particular.
