PESHAWAR, Oct 17: The standing committee of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly on health on Tuesday directed the Khyber Medical University administration to correct faulty MBBS results within two day and report compliance.
The directions were issued during a meeting, where members of the committee discussed non-implementation of its decision by the KMU administration to notify the passing of three MBBS students, who were mistakenly declared unsuccessful.
MPA Jaffar Shah chaired the meeting, where deputy speaker Khushdil Khan, MPAs Iqbal Fana and Musarrat Shafi, Khyber Medical College chief executive officer Dr Omar Ayub, special health secretary Dr Noorul Eman, and KMU vice-chancellor Dr Hafeezullah and controller Dr Shahnaz Akhtar, and others were in attendance.
Dr Ayub and Dr Eman said the act of declaring successful students failed was an error and omission but the university was reluctant to rectify it.
The university administration, however, said it was against the rules to change results after declaration and publishing.
However, some members, including the special secretary, said Ayub Medical College had corrected erroneous results in the past.
The committee ordered the KMU administration to declare the affected students passed within two day and report compliance.
In its meeting on Sept 18, 2012, the committee had ordered the KMU management to declare the three MBBS final year students of KMC failed in the oral/practical examination of ENT erroneously.
The minutes of the committee meeting obtained by Dawn reveal that the examiner has admitted the mistake saying he could not submit the personal evaluation list due to clerical mistake and he had all record with him.
ENT examiner Dr Hidayatullah, head of the department, later sent record of viva to the KMU with a request to include it in the results declared by the university by issuing necessary notification with regard to the said students.
The university turned down the request prompting students to contact the committee.
