UNITED NATIONS, Oct 18: The United Nations General Assembly elected on Thursday Argentina, Australia, Luxemberg, Rwanda and South Korea to serve as non-permanent members on the Security Council for a two-year term beginning on Jan 1, 2013.
The five countries obtained the required two-thirds majority of the member states present and voting in the secret ballot held at UN Headquarters in New York.
The five will replace Colombia, Germany, India, Portugal and South Africa, whose terms end on Dec 31.
Non-permanent members Pakistan, Azerbaijan, Guatemala, Morocco, and Togo will remain on the council till the end of 2013.
