LAHORE: Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry on Saturday said conflicts between states was the main source of terrorism, adding that lasting peace between India and Pakistan would not be possible without establishing the rule of law, DawnNews reported.

Addressing the “Peace through Law” International Conference in Lahore, the chief justice said problems arise where individuals become stronger than institutions.

Chief Justice Iftikhar said that for harmony among states, nations and institutions, peace was essential, adding that, conflicts between groups could be eliminated through implementation of laws.

Moreover, the chief justice said that Islam was a religion of peace and there was no space for violence in it. He added that all religions, including Islam, preached peace and tolerance.

“Transparent policies based on merit pave the way for peace,” added the chief justice.

Furthermore, he said: “I welcome the fact that the media and the civil society are playing a significant role in the formation of transparent policies.”
