Chinese Bang Neow festival takes place every year in October. It is a colourful event wherein participants are said to purge their sins through pain. A concept not foreign to organised religion. It involves celebrating the Chinese community's belief that abstinence from meat and various stimulants during the ninth lunar month of the Chinese calendar will help them obtain good health and peace of mind.
