LAHORE, Oct 23: The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz has urged the Election Commission to get vacated offices given to various Pakistan People’s Party leaders in the Presidency after the Supreme Court verdict that bars political activities there.

PML-N media coordinator Tariq Azeem said in a statement here on Tuesday the commission should get evicted PPP office-bearers from various rooms in the Presidency where they were continuing with their political activities in violation of the apex court decision.

He reiterated his party’s demand that President Asif Zardari should either halt his political activities by resigning as the PPP co-chairperson or abdicate the office of the head of state.

Saying the PML-N wanted implementation of the Supreme Court orders in letter and spirit, he asked why the government was hesitant to take action against the accused named in the verdict.

The former senator said although his party’s leadership was not mentioned in the verdict, they were ready to face investigation by any institution.

Objecting to singling out of the Sharifs in the ISI funding case, he said IJI was an alliance comprising multiple parties and various personalities who were part of it and now they had joined other parties. They included Chaudhry Shujaat, Pervaiz Elahi, Manzoor Wattoo, Javed Hashmi, Shah Mahmood Qureshi, Sirdar Assef Ahmed Ali, etc., he added.

He demanded that Rs500 million allegedly distributed among various politicians during Governor’s Rule in Punjab in 2009 should also be investigated.

He cited former Punjab Assembly speaker Sheikh Rafiq’s statement that Gen Asad Durrani used to attend PPP’s central working committee meetings in uniform and demanded that President Zardari should seek forgiveness from the nation for appointing “the criminal” as ambassador to Germany.

He said the nation was also waiting to see when Tamgha-i-Jamhooriat was withdrawn from Gen Aslam Beg.
