THIS refers the news item ‘ATM users -- beware of the skimmer’ (Oct 22). It was indeed an interesting and informative read. It is sad to see that hard-earned money of the people can be stolen in such a way. The incident, a reflection of the social turmoil, should ring alarm bells for those at the helm of affairs.

The authorities concerned should devise a way to secure and monitor the otherwise all-safe-looking ATM machines. If I were the person affected by this, I would have inquired from the bank manager as to how the skimmer kept evading the eye of those filling in cash in the machine and closing down the same for software update.
