KARACHI, Oct 29: Over a dozen people were killed in acts of violence in different parts of the city over the three-day Eid holidays.

The body of a young man was found near the ICI bridge, apparently tossed from a moving vehicle, on Monday.

Police said the body was stuffed in a gunny bag. It bore torture marks and a bullet was lodged in the head.

Police shifted the body to the Civil Hospital Karachi for medico-legal formalities. The victim was identified as Arsalan Ahmed, 22.

Baghdadi police station house officer Haji Sanaullah said the victim was a construction worker, resident of Baldia Town, Sector 3.

The young man was kidnapped near his home on the second day of Eid, the SHO said.

The young man was subjected to severe torture by the kidnappers before they shot him in the head.

The police said they suspected the involvement of Lyari gangsters in the murder.

The victim had no political or sectarian affiliation, the SHO added.

Shot dead in Baldia

A young man was gunned down in Baldia Town on Monday.

Police said Mohammad Kamran, 20, was at home when someone called him out and he did not return home.

Later his body was found in a narrow lane behind his home. The police said five spent bullet casings were found at the scene.

Baldia Town SHO Zafar Iqbal said the victim worked at a cellphone repair shop owned by his elder brother and hailed from Attock.

Police were not sure about the motive for the murder, but suspected personal enmity behind the killing.

Bullet-riddled body

The bullet-riddled body of a young man was found in a graveyard on Monday.

Police said the body was found in the Mewashah graveyard in Jehanabad within the remit of the Pak Colony police station.

The victim had been shot in his eye and jaw, SHO Abdul Wahid said quoting some witnesses. The suspects walked away after dumping the body.

Police shifted the body to the Civil Hospital Karachi. Later it was taken to the Edhi morgue for want of identification.

Teenage boy

The body of a teenage boy was found in Lasi Para within the remit of the Model Colony police station on Monday.

Police said the victim was identified as Jehanzeb Nisar, 16. He lived in the same area.

The police said that on the second day of Eid he had gone to his grandfather’s. When the last time he talked to his mother he told her that he was sitting at a restaurant with his friends. On Monday morning, suspects dumped his body in Lasi Goth.

They said he was killed after being kidnapped. Police said the victim’s parents had separated and there were several disputes within his family. However, the motive for the killing was not immediately clear.

‘Sectarian’ killing

A young man was killed and a friend of his wounded when suspects targeted them in Nazimabad early Monday morning.

Police said the incident took place in Nazimabad 2 within the remit of the Gulbahar police station, where Mehmoodul Hasan, 35, and Sharif Hussain, 40, were sitting outside the Prince Square when assailants riding a motorcycle shot them and rode away.

The two men were rushed to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital, where Mehmood was pronounced dead while Hussain was admitted for treatment.

DSP Iftikhar Lodhi said the victim was a resident of ASB Apartments and at the time of the incident was sitting with a friend.

The victim was a member of the Imamia Students Organisation. Police suspected the killing was part of the ongoing sectarian strife in the city.

Following the killing tension gripped the locality.

The funeral prayer for the victim was held at Rizvia Imambargah in the evening.

Restaurateur

The owner of a restaurant was gunned down in Khokhrapar, Malir, on Sunday.

Police said the incident took place in Mehran Colony, E-1 Area, where gunmen opened fire on the restaurant, wounding its owner, Shahid Husain, 45. He was rushed to the JPMC, where he died during treatment.

Police said assailants had been demanding extortion from the victim, but he rejected their repeated demands.

Watchman

A watchman was killed by assailants outside the factory in the Landhi Industrial Area on Sunday.

Police said the incident took place within the remit of Sharafi Goth, where gunmen opened fire on a factory killing its watchman, Ghulam Abbas, 35.

The victim was taken to the JPMC, where he was pronounced dead on arrival. Police said they suspected personal enmity as a motive for the crime.

Tailor

A tailor was killed near Gizri on Sunday.

Police said the victim’s body was found in a street near the Bangash Hospital within the remit of the Clifton police station. The victim had been shot three bullets. According to his brother, the victim had no enmity with anyone.

The police shifted the body to the JPMC for medico-legal formalities.

Rickshaw driver

A rickshaw driver was killed in North Nazimabad on Sunday.

Police said the incident took place within the remit of the Shahrah-i-Noor Jehan police station, where a man passenger shot driver Razi Mast Khan, 40. Police said that an unknown passenger shot him when he was passing near the Kati Pahari.

The victim was taken to ASH, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

Police quoting the victim’s family said he had some personal enmity. He lived in Nusrat Bhutto Colony and hailed from Kala Dhaka in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

Cellphone shop owner

A cellphone shop owner was shot dead in Shadman Town within the remit of the Shahrah-i-Noor Jehan police station on Sunday.

Police said the incident took place in Shadman, where suspects riding a motorcycle targeted Fahad Siddiqui, 26. The body was shifted to ASH for medico-legal formalities.

They said the victim, who had a cellphone shop, was heading home after work when he was targeted.

‘Police informant’

A man suspected to be a police informant was killed in Kunwari Colony on Sunday.

Police said the incident took place within the remit of the Pirabad police station where unknown suspects targeted Abdul Ghafoor, 35.

They said the victim had links with the Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan. He was a close aide of Amir Sher Khan, a suspected Ameer of the TTP in Sultanabad.

The police said that Ghafoor was killed by his associates on suspicion of his being an informant of the police.

The suspects left his car containing the body outside his home.

They said the entire episode took place during the day, but there was no witness to the incident.

Ex-PSF student

The body of a young man was found near the Lyari river under the Lyari Expressway on Sunday.

Police said the body was found within the remit of PIB Colony. The victim was identified as Niaz Badshah, 28. They said the victim was a former office-bearer of the People’s Students Federation and now worked at the New Sabzi Mandi.

He was kidnapped on Saturday. A report of his disappearance had been lodged at the PIB Colony police station.

The police said the victim was shot dead somewhere else and later his body was dumped at the crime scene.

Killed by ‘Rangers’

A man was killed allegedly in firing by the Rangers during a search operation carried out by the paramilitary force in a Landhi locality on Sunday night.

Police said the incident took place in Lalabad within the remit of the Sukhan police station, where during a reported search of his house Jan Mohammad, 32, father of three, was hit in the head by a bullet fired by Rangers personnel.

Following the incident, people of the area took to the streets and blocked the main road. They raised slogans against the Rangers during the protest.

On learning about the incident, senior police officers, including DIG-East Shahid Hayat, reached the scene.

The police held negotiations with the protestors assuring them that action would be taken against the suspects.

Sher Afgan, a relative of the victim, said Jan Mohammad was a driver and hailed from Waziristan. After the army operation in his native area, he had come to Karachi and started working as a driver.

Police registered an FIR (381/2012) under Section 302 (premeditated murder) of the Pakistan Penal Code stating that suspects were in Rangers uniform and could be identified by the family.
