I WANT to draw the attention of all concerned towards non-construction of long-proposed overhead bridge at Malir-15 stop and the pathetic condition of both sides of main road starting from Malir Kalaboard (Nehal Hospital) to Pak Steel flyover (Quaidabad), including Malir Court and Malir Bridge.

The said portion of the main road is in poor condition having ditches of various sizes causing continuous traffic problems, particularly at rush hours. The condition worsens when it rains.

Although, as said, the project to construct an overhead bridge at Malir-15 stop was passed in the Sindh provincial budget, the government could not start the project as yet, causing frequent traffic jams, road accidents, waste of time and money, environmental pollution and, above all, mental agony.

The PPP has always claimed the vote bank of Malir but has failed to develop this agrarian district of Karachi division. The MQM is another stakeholder in the area, which also claims to have a strong vote bank in the area.

Unfortunately, it could also not initiate.

The government might not start this project of public relief as it is short of time now. Instead, work on the overhead bridge at the airport was started which is not as important as Malir-15 bridge.

Now, when the SPLGO 2012 has passed and metropolitan status has been granted, Governor Dr Ishratul Ibad Khan and the MQM leadership should pay heed to the issue and order construction of the overhead bridge at Malir-15 stop and arrange carpeting of both sides of the main road from Malir Kalaboard (Nehal Hospital) to Pakistan Steel flyover (Quaidabad).
