Looks like summer is almost over and fall is here. It gets cool in the evenings so I jump on my human’s bed, because it’s a soft, warm and really cosy place to sleep when there is not much happening and I don’t feel like much action or attention.
This brings me to something that I have been thinking about for a few days. I speak my own meow language and my human speaks hers. She does think she understands me and I feel that although she has learnt a few things about my behaviour pattern, there is so much that she needs to know about me, my feelings, my desires and my wishes.
Cats and humans have amazing relationships, no wonder we are even more popular than dogs are as pets. We may not be able to guard the house like a dog, but we sure make a home out of a house. Did you know that around 73 million people in the world have cats?
Sometimes when she caters in my dish, changes my litter and brings all these lovely tins of food for me, she makes me so happy.
If I were a dog, I would probably jump all over her and lick her but being a cat, I have to be subtle. So I walk up to her and rub myself against her leg a bit and sometimes jump on her lap for a snooze and a little purring. She then strokes my head and my back and when I fall asleep, it is a peaceful time for both of us. Of course sometimes she has to stop whatever she is doing for sometime, like putting her papers or book away until I am done with my nap.
Now if I could write or do stuff on the keyboard like she does, I would write a long letter to her. I have been playing with pencils all my life and walking on the keyboard to irritate her especially when she is typing away, but writing is best left to humans. But I certainly know what I would say to her in a speech or a letter. This is how it would be:
“I know that cats live around 10 to 15 years and I do feel that separation from you is likely to be painful. You must give me time to understand what you want of me. It is important for you to place your trust in me. It is crucial for my well-being. “When I do something naughty, don’t be angry with me for long and don’t lock me up as punishment. You have your work, your friends, your entertainment, but I have only you.
“Talk to me. Even if I don’t understand your words, I do understand your voice when you speak to me. Be aware that which ever way you treat me, I will never forget it.
“If it ever crosses your mind that you can hit me, before you strike me, remember that I could hurt you, and yet, I choose not to bite you. Before you scold me for being lazy or uncooperative, ask yourself if something might be bothering me. Perhaps I’m not getting the right food, I have been in the sun too long, or my heart might be getting old or weak.
“Please take care of me when I grow old. You too, will grow old.
“Everything is easier for me if you are there, because I love you always.”
I would then put my paw on it as a signature and give it to her. Enough emotion for a day, I’m going for a snack now. Chow time, meow!
