A LEADING private school of Lahore prides itself on its English diction and grammar, is now behaving as small petty home-based school, where the canteen is run by an aunt, books are sold by the uncle and uniforms are supplied by a nephew, all out to make a quick buck on account of the students.

The uniform is changed every season, now a new winter uniform is on order with the nephew, replacing one which was changed only last winter.

I am sure if the school had asked for donations and zakat for their loved ones, people would have come forward voluntarily.

These tactics of changing uniforms, besides hurting the parents financially, is also a source of great inconvenience as only one shop in Lahore sells these uniform (nephew’s). Instead of investing in better teachers and facilities these schools with big (in) names (only) do not let go of any opportunity to make money, what to talk of implementing the law of half fees, as directed by the government, for siblings if two or more study at the same school.
