LAHORE, Nov 3: Pakistan Tehrik-i-Insaaf chief Imran Khan has vowed that intra-party elections will be organised at all cost.

He said the abrupt delay in elections, scheduled in Islamabad for Nov 2, was purely technical.

Mr Khan was speaking at a press conference following party’s central executive committee meeting here on Saturday.

Flanked by party’s vice-chairman Shah Mahmood Qureshi and senior vice-president Hamid Khan, Imran Khan asserted that the party elections would be held within two weeks’ time in Islamabad followed by elections in Khyber Pakhtunkhawa, Punjab, Sindh and Balochistan.

He said Hamid Khan would announce schedule for party elections after the party’s election commission meeting on Nov 5.

Dispelling impression that party elections had been delayed in view of possible defections, Khan asserted that the reason was purely technical in terms of preparing voter lists and developing and using technology for the elections.

He said the party members’ number had risen to around 10 million, who became members through different modes – telephone, SMS’, website and filling of membership forms physically.

The PTI chief also said that holding intra-party elections was a big challenge during the general elections’ year as well as in the situation when there was no example of intra-political party elections in the country.
