LAHORE, Nov 4: A woman in her 40’s was shot dead at her doorstep by a young man following refusal of a marriage proposal in Bhaggatpura locality of Shadbagh on Sunday.

Police said Shahzad Ahmad of Sultanpura along with his accomplices opened fire on Saleema and fled the scene. The victim was rushed to Mayo Hospital where she succumbed to her wounds.

Police inquiries showed that Shahzad sent his parents to the house of a girl whom he liked, but girl’s mother Saleema rejected the proposal.

The next day Shahzad phoned Saleema and she reprimanded him. The suspect got offended and came to victim’s house along with his five accomplices and opened fire.

ROBBERIES: Robbers plundered cash and valuables worth Rs3.5 million during four house robberies in the provincial capital on Sunday.

Five robbers barged into the house of Adnan in Batapur police limits, held family members at gunpoint and took away cash and valuables worth Rs1 million.

Some robbers stormed into the house of Nadeem in Manawan police precincts and took away cash and valuables worth Rs700,000.

Some robbers burst into the house of Mobeen in Hunjarwal police jurisdiction and made off with cash and valuables worth Rs800,000.

Two robbers entered the house of Mohsin in Manga Mandi police limits and took away cash and valuables worth Rs600,000.

Body found: Rescuers recovered the body of a two-year-old minor from a drain near Dharampura on Sunday, a day after he went missing near his house.

Mustafaabad police said Zubair, son of rickshaw driver Muhammad Javed, was playing with his elder brother in a street on Purana Dharampura when he went missing. His brother returned home alone which alerted the parents.

The child could not be located despite extensive search by parents and neighbours on Saturday and his body was spotted in the drain on Sunday.

The family and locals lodged a protest against the City District Government Lahore and Wasa for not securing the drains.

gamblers held:  Gulberg police claim to have arrested 13 gamblers and seized from them stake money worth Rs82,000 and cell phones.

Gulberg ASP Tariq Aziz Sandhu said he led a police team which raided a house in C-II Gulberg on secret information and caught the suspects red handed.

He said the suspects were gambling on cards, adding they were members of notorious gambler Shahid Khan group.

The ASP said Shahid Khan was on the top 10 list of Lahore police.
