HYDERABAD, Nov 6: Another member of the Dawoodi Bohra community was killed and three persons — two of them activists of the Ahle Sunnat Wal Jamaat (ASWJ) and the other a minor girl — received bullet injuries on Tuesday night in the wave of terrorist attacks and targeted killings that hit the city on Saturday, when two members of the community were gunned down in the Saddar Bazaar area.

A lone assailant entered Tahir Traders, a hardware shop on Risala Road, and fired upon Mustafa Jamali at pointblank range. The victim received several bullets in the skull. Another person, Ali Asghar, who runs the adjacent shop, Hyderi Traders, rushed to the scene and was also attacked. Asghar fell outside shop and was taken to a hospital, where he succumbed to his wounds. The body was handed over to his heirs.

Indiscriminate firing by the assailant outside the shops caused bullet injuries to Muhsin, son of Bashir Arain, and smashed windscreen of a car (ACL 328) belonging to Hussaini Jamali of Hussaini Traders.

“The attacker didn’t speak a word,” said Jamali’s brother, Murtaza, outside the ICU of the hospital. Jamali was put on ventilator and shifted to Karachi at about 10.30pm. “His gun was apparently fitted with a silencer,” he added.

Another witness said that the attacker returned to a waiting motorbike driven by his accomplice and both of them rode away.

The attack led to an abrupt closure of bazaars and markets at Tilak Incline, Risala Road, Station Road, Gari Khata, Khokhar Mohallah and other areas.

The district administration has imposed a ban on pillion riding for three days to control the situation.

On Saturday, two members of the community were gunned down in Saddar Bazaar and Murtaza’s brother, Hatim, was wounded in what was described as ‘targeted killings’. Hatim is currently admitted in a hospital in Karachi. No FIR of the attack has so far been registered.

The same night, a former taluka nazim city, Jalilur Rehman Siddiqui, belonging to the Muttahida Qaumi Movement was gunned down in same fashion in the Phulelli police station area. The victim’s brother lodged an FIR of the killing.

Terrorists struck again on Sunday night to target the Ghausia Foundation office, where they gunned down three persons and wounded another three.

An FIR of the incident is yet to be registered.

Police claimed to have picked up the prime accused in the Saturday killing of two Bohra community members. They identified him as Sualaheen Qureshi, who was booked in house robbery case some time back.

In the taluka nazim’s killing case, an activist of Ahle Sunnat Wal Jamat (ASWJ), Imran alias Commando, was picked up and said they were trying to track down another suspect, Mohammad Fiasal.

Attack on protesters

ASWJ activists and supporters staged a protest sit-in near Bhitai CNG Station on Hatri Bypass at Hala Naka and demanded release of Imran Commando. While their protest was under way, three armed men opened indiscriminate fire at them.

ASWJ leader Maulana Farooq Azad told journalists at a hospital that two of the protesters and a pedestrian girl were wounded in the attack.

He alleged that the SHO of the Hatri police station, Munir Abbasi, was timely informed about the attackers but he let them flee the scene.

Maulana Azad identified the wounded victims as Mohammad Naeem and Mohammad Yousuf alias Osama. The police identified the wounded girl as Ayesha. The victims were shifted to the Civil Hospital Hyderabad, where their condition was stated to be out of danger.

The ASWJ leader claimed that one of attackers, Deen Mohammad Chang, lived in the Chang village. He said the attacker along with his associates arrived at the sit-in venue in a car and fled in the same vehicle after carrying out the attack.

Maulana Azad said that the SP headquarters asked him to hand over Faisal to the police and promised that his arrest would be brought on record. He said the SP also confirmed that Imran Commando had been kept in the CIA Centre, Hyderabad. He said that the SP was also requested to register an FIR against those who attacked the protesters However, Hatri police said that Mohammad Shakir had lodged an FIR against three ‘unknown’ persons under sections 324, 504 and 34 of PPC.

Meanwhile, two persons were killed in two separate incidents on Tuesday in the city.

A scrap tyre dealer was killed by two assailants riding a motorbike. The victim, Abdul Rehman, 50, son of Makhan, was sitting in his shop within the remit of the Hatri police station when shot by the attackers.

He was taken to the Civil Hospital Hyderabad.

The police believed the attack was result of some old enmity, adding that the victim hailed from Mohmand Agency.

No FIR of the murder was registered till the evening.

Another man was shot dead in a garage located near Thandi Sarak in Panwhar Goth within the remit of the GOR police station. The victim, Munawar, 40, son of Wali Mohammad Rajar, was rushed to a hospital where he was pronounced dead.
