ISLAMABAD, Nov 7: A parliamentary committee expressed dissatisfaction on Wednesday over the performance of the ministry of postal services, particularly its failure to formulate a proper bill to bring private courier companies under its control.
The National Assembly’s standing committee on postal services noted with concern that its recommendations had not been incorporated in draft of the Pakistan Postal Services Management Board (Amendment) Bill, 2008.
The committee directed ministry officials to redraft the bill to rein in private courier companies. The parliamentary committee met in the Parliament House and MNA Pir Muhammad Aslam Bodla presided over its meeting.
In its last meeting the committee had directed officials to incorporate some of its recommendations in the draft bill.
The committee also directed the ministry to examine rules and regulations of institutions like the Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (Pemra), National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (Nepra) and Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) before finalising the draft of the bill.
This, the committee members noted, would enable officials to supervise functioning and operations of the courier companies.
It will also stop the mushroom growth of private mailing companies which, the MNAs said, had not been providing quality services to the masses.
Those who attended the meeting included MNAs Sher Muhammad Baloch, Palwasha Khan, Dr Nelson Azeem, Imrana Saeed, Muzaffar-ul-Mulk and Bushra Rehman.
